Boyscout troupe 1250 will again join L4P to cut Japanese Knotweed that has re-emerged explosively, as expected. Kudzu, multiflora rose, vines and other offenders are also on our target list. Our plan is to cut knotweed twice a year and treat with specific, limited, targeted herbicide once each year, for several years at least in hopes that our persistence will ultimately result in knotweed elimination.
Non-boyscout volunteers are also welcome - join us at 9:30 a.m. on the grass near the river bank at the Avondale entrance of Laurel Riverfront Park. Bring branch cutters for vines, grass whips and hedge clippers for knotweed, and other non-power cutting tools. All volunteers must sign liability waivers for the city and L4P. High school students are welcome, but parents must sign waivers if under 18. Dress appropriately to avoid ticks and sunburn, and bring lots of water to stay well hydrated. We recommend Permethrin insecticide to repel ticks - follow manufacturers application instructions.
